Fragile States in Relation to SDG10: Concept, History, Causes and Measurement

Abstract
State fragility poses a major obstacle to reducing inequalities within and among nations, directly threatening the realization of UN Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG 10). This reference entry provides a comprehensive overview of state fragility, reviewing its conceptual evolution, historical determinants, institutional causes, and primary measurement indices. It analyzes how governance failure, weak institutions, and economic vulnerability perpetuate inequality in fragile states.
