The CHREMIR Constitution
The rules that govern membership, decision-making, meetings, fees and amendments — ensuring transparency and accountability in everything we do.
Membership
Membership is open to faculty, researchers, students and practitioners of the University of Chittagong or collaborating institutions, and to visiting researchers and fellows through exchanges and partnerships. There are five membership categories:
Research Associate
Active contributing researchers engaged in Center projects.
Researcher
Faculty and independent researchers affiliated with the Center.
Research Affiliate
Collaborators from partner institutions and exchanges.
Fellow
Distinguished scholars and experts recognised by the Center.
General Member
Students and practitioners supporting the Center's mission.
Executive Board
The Executive Board is the principal decision-making body: the Director, a Co/Deputy-Director and six other members (eight in total), serving a two-year tenure. It approves memberships, budgets, work plans, agreements and committees, and regulates the annual subscription.
Meetings
The Board meets as required with at least three days' notice. Quorum is half of the Board. Consensus is preferred; otherwise decisions follow one-member-one-vote, with the Director holding a casting vote on a tie. Minutes are kept in a signed minute book, and decisions are final unless later revoked. Fellows and Associates may attend and speak but do not vote.
Advisory Board (ABCHREMIR)
The Advisory Board comprises 20 members nominated by the Executive Board — global scholars and experts in human rights, environment and migration — serving a three-year tenure. It advises on strategy and collaborates on research.
Fees & Funding
The annual subscription is set by the Executive Board and is payable by 31 December of the following year. The Center is funded through member subscriptions, national and foreign research-project funding, grants, donations and consultancy. Financial records are open to inspection by members, subject to privacy law.
Amendments
Amendments to the constitution require a special joint meeting of the Executive and Advisory Boards, carried by a two-thirds majority of voting members.
