Engaging Fathers in the Childcare Through Paternity Leave in Bangladesh
Morshadul Hoque, Shamim Noor, Md. Shahidulla Kaiser
Abstract
Maternal care responsibilities disproportionately fall on women in South Asian societies due to deeply ingrained gender norms. This chapter explores the prospects and policy arguments for introducing formal paternity leave in Bangladesh to encourage male participation in early childcare. The authors examine existing labor regulations, global best practices, and the socio-cultural benefits of paternal engagement for gender equality and child development.
