Social Challenges of Protracted Rohingya Refugee Presence in the Host Community of Bangladesh

Abstract

Following the 2017 Rohingya influx into Cox's Bazar, host community members have encountered severe socio-economic, environmental, and security challenges. Based on empirical qualitative research, this chapter explores deteriorating local-refugee relations, social assimilation strain, and community perceptions resulting from long-term displacement.
