Prof. Md. Kamal Uddin, PhD

Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin is a Professor of International Relations at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and former Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the university, where he served from September 2024 to June 2026. He has also held a range of academic and administrative leadership positions, including Director of the Research & Publication Cell, Director of the Centre for Human Rights, Environment and Migration Research (CHREMIR), and Chairperson of the Department of International Relations.

Dr. Uddin earned his PhD in Asian and International Studies from the City University of Hong Kong and a Master of Advanced Studies in International Organizations from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He also holds BSS and MSS degrees in Political Science from the University of Chittagong. His major areas of academic specialization include human rights, policing and criminal justice, global environmental politics, sustainable development, research methodology, forced migration, and international organizations, with a particular interest in perspectives from the Global South.

With extensive experience in teaching, research, and academic supervision, Dr. Uddin has taught at the University of Chittagong and served as adjunct faculty at institutions including the Asian University for Women, Bangladesh Military Academy/Bangladesh University of Professionals, and Bangladesh Marine Academy. His research has addressed Rohingya repatriation, labour migration, human rights education, community policing, environmental degradation, sustainable development, and gender and higher education.

Dr. Uddin has published widely in internationally recognized journals, including Journal of Contemporary Asia, Policing and Society, Sustainable Development, VOLUNTAS, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Development Policy Review, and Human Rights Review. His scholarly contributions have earned him numerous distinctions, including the Top Researcher Award of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Chittagong in 2022, 2023, and 2024, Best Research Article Awards, an Early-Career Researcher Scholarship in Southern Criminology from Queensland University of Technology, and an Australia Award in 2026.
